Be picked up from your accommodation for an exciting day exploring and learning more about the history, culture, and daily lifestyle of São Vicente!
We start at our island’s historic fort, Fortim del Rei, where you’ll enjoy phenomenal views of Mindelo Bay and our popular city beach, Laginha. Take a walk through the city and visit the Cultural Center to see current artistic talents on display. Stroll through Mindelo’s lively markets: the Fish Market, the Municipal Market (vegetables/fruits), and the African Market* (closed on Sundays).
Leaving the city, we pass by the home of our famous Barefoot Diva, Cesária Évora, before enjoying a scenic mountain drive up to Monte Verde (774 m / 2,539 ft), the highest point on São Vicente. At the summit, we’ll enjoy a cup of locally grown tea or coffee at the Tea House while taking in spectacular island views. On a clear day, you may see the islands of Santo Antão, São Nicolau, Santa Luzia, Ilhéu Raso, and Branco — plus breathtaking views over Mindelo and the coastal beaches from above.
Next, we head to the town of Salamansa, a charming and lively fishing village. Life moves at a traditional village pace here, and locals are always happy to welcome visitors. Salamansa is also a hub for windsurfing and kitesurfing, with beachfront spots where you can stop for a refreshing drink.
At our famous Baía das Gatas beach, take a swim or dive from the trampoline into the crystal-clear blue lagoon.
After a fantastic day exploring the best of São Vicente, return to Mindelo.
Discover the vibrant cultural capital of Cape Verde! Explore the busy colorful markets and lively streets of Mindelo, visit Monte Verde and local villages, and swim in the crystal-clear blue waters of our stunning beaches.
