Explore the city of Mindelo, the cultural capital of the island, with a visit to the famous Baía das Gatas Beach
Tour around Mindelo, the island’s cultural capital, visiting all major points of interest
After finishing the city tour, we continue to the famous Baía das Gatas Beach, where you’ll learn about the history of its renowned international music festival and take a refreshing dip from the diving platform into the crystal-clear blue lagoon.
Baía das Gatas is a large natural swimming pool, as its opening to the sea is protected by rocks that form a natural barrier. To the east lies Praia Grande (also known as Praia do Norte), with its vast stretch of sand disappearing into the horizon. A small traditional fishing community is located on the eastern side of the village.
Since 1984, the Baía das Gatas Music Festival has been held every year on the first full-moon weekend of August. It began as a gathering of friends who met on the beach to compose and play music. Over the years, it grew into an internationally renowned music event. Every year, musicians from around the world come to this great celebration of music, where African rhythms naturally take center stage. In addition to performances by national and international artists and bands, there are also water sports and a diverse cultural program.
Several small restaurants and guesthouses support tourists and occasional visitors.
To conclude this memorable tour, we return to our starting point.
